6.9.23: Wow! What a Week!

It was a crazy/busy/funtastic week!  Here is the highlight reel.

.

SANDPOINT COTTAGES

Several SFNW crew visited the new Sandpoint Cottages located in Magnusson Park.  They are definitely “one step up” from the tiny homes, and according to Sharon Lee with LIHI, are over $100,000 LESS per unit than a single apartment.  Let’s build many more of these communities!

GREEN GLOBE AWARD

On Wednesday, we were awarded the Green Globe Award for Housing from the King County Department of Natural Resources.  This prestigious award is only given out every two years.  In the photo above, when our official photo was about to be taken, our friend King County Council Member Sarah Perry encouraged all the other council members there to have their photo taken with us.  How cool is that!  From left to right, KCCM Rod Dembowski, Christie True with the Dept. of Natural Resources, Sarah Perry,  Barb, KCCM and Chair Dave Upthegrove, and KCCM Joe McDermott.  King County Executive Dow Constantine was present but needed to leave early to catch a flight, so CM Perry introduced Barb to him, and he has agreed to a meeting with us.

If you would like to see the full presentation of the awards ceremony, please go to

Our award starts at 17:16.

BELLEVUE BIG PICTURE SCHOOL INTERN GRADUATION

Our Interns:  Annagha, Annika, Xavian, Huntley, and Cody.

Yesterday was one heck of a day!  Our Interns who have been with us since January, had their last day with us.  Their “final exam” was Team Leading a brand new group from Windermere / Eastlake including doing Storytime where they told the people side of what we do.

Each of the Interns achieved the Master of Buildology status for completing at least 90% of the tasks at The Hope Factory.  One Intern, Annika Smith, earned her PhD in Buildology for completing all of the tasks at The Hope Factory.  Congratulations to all of the Interns!

Later in the evening, Tom and Barb, as their mentors, attended the Mentor Appreciation Night at the Bellevue Big Picture School.  We got to see our Interns’ presentations and were honored along with the mentors of the other internship programs.  Here are more photos from the day.
