The motto on our logo says “Building Tiny Homes. Building Community.” This week we got a double dose of community.
There is a walking group on Mercer Island called Solemates. They have only built with us one time, but apparently, we have been on their mind a lot lately.
During our GiveBIG campaign, they all started talking about sponsoring a home. One of them said, “I’ll chip in $100 if the rest of you will.” They all agreed, and they raised the $4300 sponsorship in less than a week. But they weren’t done. All totaled
they donated $9600. Look at the sheer numbers of checks that they gave! With the GiveBIG match, four more tiny homes will be built and up to 240 more folks will be off the streets and into a space that is warm, safe, and dry. Thank you so much Solemates!

Speaking of community, James, our rep from Lowe’s, recently went to all 10 Lowe’s stores that he represents and asked them specifically to donate money for Sound Foundations NW. The result was huge! Thanks to James (and Lowe’s, of course), we now have several new ladders, a new router, and two new chop saws. Thanks so much James!
We were informed this week that Sound Foundations NW has been selected to receive the 2023 Green Globe “Leader in Affordable Green Housing” Award from the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks for outstanding achievement in environmental stewardship and community resilience.
The Green Globe Award is King County’s highest honor for environmental stewardship. Presented every two years, these awards recognize organizations, businesses, and individuals who have gone the extra mile in protecting our environment, managing natural resources, and benefiting community resilience and ensuring environmental justice for all.
This year, the Green Globe Awards will be presented in person by Executive Dow Constantine. The celebration will take place on Wed., June 7, at 10 a.m. at the Bethaday Community Learning Space in White Center.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: TEAM LEADERS NEEDED!
This year we will participate in the Second Annual One Seattle Day of Service. Thousands of volunteers from around the city will be volunteering to make our city a better place.
When Fire Chief Scoggins found out that Sound Foundations NW does this event, he was very persuasive. As a result, the Chief and 15 of his firefighter buddies will be building with us on that day along with our friend Council Member Teresa Mosqueda.
We are looking for EIGHT Team Leaders for that day. Please email SoundFoundationsNW@gmail.com soon to let us know if you can be a Team Leader for this event.

We hear the weather will start to warm up this week. Just a reminder that if the temperature inside The Hope Factory is over 90 degrees, we will suspend building for that day. If we should cancel for the entire day, you will get an email from us by 7 am on the day that you are to volunteer.
